Finding mailbox size under Exchange 2010 SP1

Today I needed to find the mailbox size for a user. I was stumped – Under Exchange 2003 this was an easy thing to determine from the ESM. You simply added the coulmn in the view if it wasn’t there already. There wasn’t that option under 2010. After a little searching I ran across the following command:

Get-MailboxStatistics -database “Mailbox Database” | Select DisplayName, TotalItemSize | Format-Table

Even better is that instead of a database you can get just one mailbox with

Get-MailboxStatistics -Identity “user” | Select DisplayName, TotalItemSize | Format-Table

Want a listing with the mailboxes sorted by size?

Get-MailboxStatistics -database “Mailbox Database” | Select DisplayName, TotalItemSize | sort -property TotalItemSize | Format-Table

or to get descending order

Get-MailboxStatistics -database “Mailbox Database” | Select DisplayName, TotalItemSize | sort -property TotalItemSize -descending | Format-Table
